it was the 3rd day of our training. It started
with the feedback session and we presented our feedbacks.
After the feedback session, Michal reviewed our three
hundred word stories which we put on our blogs as an assignment.
We also had a practice of Editorial meeting and we discuss
the different possible story ideas with Michal. He told us how to angle our
stories.
To understand how to write according to pictures, we had a
visual story session with Marya Iqbal. She is professional photographer with
Express Tribune. She told us about the different characteristics of photography
particularly when shooting for a News story. She also told us how to shoot and
write photo essays etc.
We had an hour outdoor session for photography after the
launch to get pictures for our stories. We later presented our pictures and Michal
reviewed the photos and gave us his suggestions.
DAY: 2

It was the second day of our training. It started with the
feedback session and we presented what we learnt from yesterday.
After the feedback session, Michal told us how Content is the
king in today's world of journalism and why a newspaper, radio station, TV
channel or an online media cannot survive if it compromises on the quality of
the content. He said the biggest challenge before the media is to ensure
quality content considering the changing tastes of audience.
He told us how to
write for web. We learnt about writing news, balancing a story, determining the
impact of story. We learnt about the importance of comments, role of blogs and op-ed
pieces. He said that journalist should be ‘HACK’ today. He should write for anything.
We learnt how to gather contents and sell a story being
editor. Explaining podcasting, he told
us that we have to gather audio and shoot and edit videos for web during next
week.
He told us how to write for pictures and also that we would
have a session on writing for pictures tomorrow.
we also made comparision of differnent website and discussed their contents with Michal., which was a yeaterday's assignment.
Keeping our audiences in mind, we learnt thinking and telling
a story from news editor and all round approaches.
We learnt the concept of “RE/PU/DE” in publishing a story on ethical
dimensions. We wrote one hundred word
stories each and shared them on Google docs. Our stories were reviewed by
Michal and he suggested changes in our story. We later uploaded our stories on
KUST word press website.
We wrote a three hundred word story each and contributed them
to our personal blogs.
DAY-1:
03-12-2012
It was the first day of second
digital TOT. It was based on the
revision and assessment of first digital TOT. The training started with the participants’
introduction with our lead trainer Michal Alexander. After introduction, we
recalled what we learnt in our first digital Training with our trainer Asif
Iqbal like, XAMP, Apache, Word Press widgets, plugins etc. it appeared that we
all retained, what we learnt in previous training.
Michal told us about the actual contents of blogs. He reviewed all our blogs and
told us how we can individually improve our blogs by having proper headlines,
intros and length. He also told us that the writings in blogs should be personal
and narrative.
We filled our pre-training
evaluation form and learnt about the WP touch widget that makes the web page suitable
for smartphones and tablets. We learnt about the different page layout sections
and other features of KUST website and also searched web to find a suitable and
easy method to integrate blogs to our word press websites.
We later developed a category
named ‘dtot’ with sub categories: a) writing b) pictures c) videos and posted stories, pictures and videos in them.
